Jerry Patrick

Jerry Patrick, 66, of Colonial Beach, VA passed peacefully Monday in his home with family present after battling health care issues for several years as his health declined. Jerry was born August 16,1952 to Mr. Peter Smallwood  and the late Ms.Willie Belle Patrick in Washington, North Carolina.Jerry attended Beaufort County School Systems and graduated from Washington High School. Later he moved to Peekskill, NY with family members. Jerry joined the United States Naval Reserves serving 6 years and received an honorable discharge. He worked as a CNA at West Ledge Nursing Home ,Peekskill, NY where he met his life long companion Althea Phillips.Jerry and Althea had two sons Joshua and Caleb and a daughter Althea during their marriage.Shortly after little Althea was born they moved to Colonial Beach Virginia. Jerry then became a Correctional Officer at Coffeewood Correctional Center in Mitchell Va.later he transferred  to  Haynesville Center, Haynesville, Va. where he retired due to illness.  After their marriage Althea continued to companion him.During Jerry's illness Althea then became his primary care provider.Jerry is preceded in death by his mother Ms. Willie Belle Patrick,brother Jessie Smallwood and sister Bonita St Clair. Left to cherish his memories Althea Phillips; four sons Terrence Patrick,  Jerry Patrick Jr. both  of Peekskill, NY, Joshua Patrick,Caleb Patrick and his one daughter Althea Patrick of Colonial Beach Virginia; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren;three brothers Joseph Oden (Gloria), Charlotte, NC. Donald Patrick (Gloria) Zebulon, NC, and Terry Smallwood of Far Rockaway,NY; four sister Mary Patrick Ledbetter (George) of  Charlotte, NC, Tina White (Jeffrey),Cassandra Smallwood, and Loretta Smallwood of  Washington NC; close family members Rev Howard and Rev Jeannette Phillips, of Peekskill, NY; a host of nephews,nieces and other relatives and friends. Jerry will be remembered as a father figure to Jennifer Phillips,Tyrone Coleman, Stephanie Coleman, Christina Coleman, Matthew Coleman and Nyiabenghi Lamb. There will be a private interment family gathering to be announced by the family at a later time. Acknowledgements: the Patrick family acknowledges with sincere appreciation the many comforting expressions of sympathy and acts of kindness. The family would also like to give a special thanks to all the healthcare personnel for your compassionate care.
