On the morning of July 21, 2018 God in His infinite wisdom looked down and that Dorch Roosevelt Pipkin had completed his work here on earth. He sent His angels to guide hm home to receive his crown.On May 2, 1930, Dorch Roosevelt Pipkin was born to the late Roosevelt and Mildred Pipkin in Harnett County North Carolina. He is the eldest of eight children. He was known throughout his 88 years as “Pip” by his family, friends and co-workers. His nieces and nephews loved to call him Uncle Dorch. Dorch attended Killing Ford School, in the Killing Ford Community outside of Erwin, NC. Later as a young man Dorch enlisted in the United States Army. He served as a communication Signalman from May 24,1951 to May 18, 1953. His most memorable military assignment was served overseas in Germany.After leaving the the Armed Forces Dorch relocated to Philadelphia, PA; and worked as a mechanic. Over the years Dorch attained the status of a Master Mechanic at his trade." If it was broke he could fix it”. In 1973 Dorch moved back to his hometown of Erwin NC. He became the proud business owner of Pip’s Garage in Erwin North Carolina. At Pip’s Garage he provided automotive services to his community until his health failed.He was preceded in death by Both his parents and 3 younger siblings one sister Eloise Hicks and two brothers George Pipkin and Thomas Pipkin.He leaves to cherish his memories Two sons Ralph and Travis, one brother Willard (Doris) Pipkin, three sisters Virginia and Jessie Pipkin of Erwin NC, Jean Ruth Griffin of Philadelphia. One sister-in-law Margie Pipkin of Erwin. Two uncles John (Willie) and Walter (Lossie) McNeil of Erwin NC, one aunt Hattie Holland of Erwin NC. Several grand and great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.There will be a public viewing on Thursday July 26,2018 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, at Family Funeral Home,302 Spring Branch Rd. Dunn, NC. Funeral services will be Friday 1 pm, July 27, 2018 at Oak Grove AME Zion Church, Erwin NC. Interment will be at Riverside Community Cemetery Erwin, NC.
