Mrs. Jessie Belle Mc Lean Massey of Dunn, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday morning, December 5, 2023 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on August 14, 1935 to the late Georganna Mc Lean Terry and Jessie King. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Massey Jr. and a granddaughter Shahera Franette Stephens. Jessie was raised by her grandmother, Martha McLean who was responsible for teaching Jessie about all the things she did so well. At 29 years old, Jessie began a devoted 36 years of her life as a nanny, housekeeper, nurse and friend to Dr. and Mrs. J.W. “Jack and Margot” Jordan and their children, Robert, John and Mary Margaret. Margot depended on Jessie’s understanding of raising a family and in many instances, Jessie was the hands and feet that got the job done for her friend. An excellent cook, Jessie would have been at home as the chef in any fine dining restaurant, yet she worked her magic in the kitchen as she cared for the Jordans. Visitors to the Jordan home always bragged and showed extreme appreciation when they were privileged to dine at the table Jessie spread before them. Jessie proudly told others that she had four children even though her daughter, Joyce was her first and only child born to her. Nevertheless, Jessie stood by Margot Jordan’s side for 36 years as she helped raise her three children. After Mrs. Jordan’s death in 2000 following a long illness, Jessie hung up her nurse’s hat and went to work as a custodian with the Harnett County Schools. For nearly 19 years, Jessie served the school children of the Dunn area. There she shared her love for others, and earned the admiration, love and respect of all the school staff. Even though she retired from the school’s employ in 2019, faculty and staff alike still smile proudly any time Jessie’s name is mentioned. Many of those co-workers still refer to her as an “angel” and a “saint among us” when speaking about her. Jessie is survived by her daughter, Joyce Ann McLean Stephens (Junious) of Dunn and two granddaughters, Chiquida Shamell Stephens of Greensboro, NC and Sandra Elliott of Portsmouth, Virginia. There are three great-grandchildren, Antoinette Stephens, Britany Stephens, Dania Stephens, and five great-great grandchildren. Her best friend, Velma Cameron remains to remember Jessie’s special role in her life. Jessie is also survived by a brother, Jesse King Jr., of New Jersey, as well as sisters Lorraine King-Hill of Pennsylvania and Darlene King of Florida. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 302 Spring Branch Road, Dunn, immediately followed by a funeral service officiated by Rev. Theresa Spears in the funeral home chapel., interment followed by funeral service l will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Dunn, North Carolina.
