Vera Jenkins Harris was born December 21st, 1945 to the late Lizzie Pass, in Phoenix City, Alabama. She was the sixth out of seven children. On Thursday August 12th, 2021, the Lord called his servant and daughter of the most high, home.
Vera, lovingly known as Mama Vera, was a mother to many people and she had compassion for helping others and did not mind sharing the little that she had. She loved cooking that real down south soul food and baking. It made her happy to feed people and watch their smiling faces, and she loved feeding all her grandchildren their favorite foods. If you ever ate some of Mama Vera’s desserts, you knew they were made of love. Her famous homemade caramel cake left you wanting more and let’s not forget her collard greens and cornbread. She was the only person that would cut her greens up super small and make the best fried chicken wings ever.
In 1982, Vera accepted the Lord as her savior and joined the Holy Trinity Baptist Church, in Detroit, MI, under the leadership of the late Reverend John H. Mitchell. In 1984, Vera accepted the call into the ministry as an Evangelist on August 27th. Vera, who had given evidence that God had called her into the Gospel Ministry and was licensed to preach the gospel as she had opportunities to use her gifts in the work of the ministry.
Vera had gain so much knowledge in the word by studying and spending time with the Lord. Because of this she was able to minister and witness to the brokenhearted and lost souls. She truly was a God-fearing woman, and she was always praying, depositing wisdom to others, and giving encouraging scriptures to those in need.
Preceded her in death are her mother Lizzie Pass, daughter Jeanette M. Harris, three brothers: Paul Pass Jr, Henry Pass, and Roosevelt Pass, and two sisters: Anna James and Ida Mae Phillips.
